What is the "Connecting …" campaign?
It is a stewardship campaign designed to draw us closer to God
spiritually, emotionally, and financially. It will be a 3 year
commitment to pray, seek God’s will, and give sacrificially (over
and above our regular tithe) to God’s ministries on earth. The first
$250,000 will pay down current debt and the remaining balance will
go into a future building fund.
Why do we have debt?
In the Spring of 1999, a Long Range Planning team was formed to
assess the needs of the congregation and to prepare our congregation
for future growth. After this team assessed WCC’s programs, they
realized the need for additional educational, fellowship, and
worship space. The congregation pledged $350,000 thru the – "A Proud
past…A Promising Future" campaign towards a new building. Our
Fellowship Hall cost $1,350,000, leaving us with a debt of
$1,000,000. That debt is now below $900,000 and we pay $8100/month
on the mortgage.
Why should I give to the "Connecting …" campaign?
God calls all of us to seek him first, and He will take care of
all our needs. There are many lost souls who don’t know Jesus or
have a relationship with Him. The number one reason to give to this
campaign is the Great Commission: Matthew 28: 19-20 Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you.
We use the Fellowship Hall to draw people into our church through
activities that they participate in. We then have a chance to
express God’s love for them, and share our relationship with Jesus,
that they too can have. Many people have accepted Jesus Christ after
first coming to an event in our Fellowship Hall.
Finally, we are close to full capacity and will eventually need
to expand, allowing room for new Christians. Saving for a future
expansion is a wise choice today.
How much should I give?
You should spend time in prayer with God and seek His advice on
this question. Pray that He lead you and guide you, and show you
what He wants from you during this campaign. It is not about equal
gifts, but it is about equal sacrifice.
When will it begin?
Meetings will take place in the month of October and our
Celebration Event to kick off the campaign will be at the end of
October.
What ministries are served by the Fellowship Hall?
Upwards Basketball, Fellowship Dinners, Wedding Receptions, Youth
events, Community events, School Events, Sunday School classes, and
family gatherings, just to name a few. Our Fellowship Hall is used
almost every night of the week.
Why aren’t we building a new sanctuary right now?
The debt load for WCC is $8,100/month. It wouldn’t be wise to go
further into debt for a longer period of time just to have what we
want today. God has given us a vision of the future for Walton
Christian Church. That vision includes a new 360 seat sanctuary. But
God also wants us to be good stewards of our finances and admonishes
us many times in the bible about borrowing money. Church Leadership
feels at this time it will be a wiser use of funds to pay down debt
first before beginning a new building. Completing the "Connecting …"
campaign in this fashion will give us options in the future.
What is a Commitment Card and why use one?
The Commitment Card is a simple statement of intent. Your name
will not be on it, nor will you need to sign them. It will help the
church financial leaders plan for the future and gauge the overall
campaign.
Will my giving be confidential?
YES! It will NOT be used in any public way. Your commitment is
between you and God.
What if my financial circumstances change?
If your financial picture changes in a way that forces you to
change your commitment, that’s OK. God calls on us to seek Him
first, and follow the path He lays out for us. Growing closer to
Jesus Christ is the whole purpose of this "Connecting … " campaign.
Is our Church Leadership united?
YES! There have been many discussions on how we should proceed,
and we all agree that God is calling us to have the "Connecting …"
campaign. While there were competing ideas about how to spend the
money, this was resolved by paying the first $250,000 to debt and
putting the remainder in a building fund. We all agree this is what
God wants for Walton Christian Church.
Why now with this economy?
God’s plans are not dependent upon the economy. He has
been leading us for the last 2-1/2 years towards this project. Let
the Holy Spirit guide us – not fear and what we think we can see.
This is a 3 year campaign, and God will provide!
